Gemma Lawlor, who retired from art teaching in 2019, has always also been a practicing artist. Last exhibiting in 2010 she has made a stunning re-emergence onto the exhibition circuit by selling out on the opening night of the Black Barn Group Exhibition in Bridgetown as part of the Blackwood River Arts Trail.
Her current body of work consists of playful semi-abstract Australian landscapes with layering of materials to build depth and textural interest. Many of the series relate to a recent trip through the salt lakes of South Australia.
Her works will remain on display at the Black Barn Studio on the banks of the Blackwood River until the 16th April 2023.
